Laminate flooring, also known as "强化地板" in Chinese, is a type of flooring that simulates the visual appearance of real wood but is actually made of artificial materials. The top layer of laminate flooring is not real wood, but it closely imitates the look of real wood. The bottom layer is usually made of fiberboard.

On the other hand, engineered flooring, also known as "engineered hardwood flooring," is a type of flooring that consists of a layer of real wood on the surface. This gives it the same texture and feel as solid wood. The bottom layer of engineered flooring is typically made of dense plywood.

In terms of overall cost, engineered flooring is generally more expensive than laminate flooring. However, laminate flooring is easier to install compared to engineered flooring.
