The thickness of SPC flooring is crucial to its performance and adaptability. Choosing the right thickness maximizes the flooring's lifespan and user experience.
SPC thickness is related to durability (thicker is more resistant to damage), comfort (thicker flooring provides better sound insulation and a more comfortable feel underfoot), adaptability (thinner flooring saves space, thicker flooring is more forgiving of subfloor areas), and cost (thicker flooring is more expensive).
1. 3mm-4mm: Lightweight and Economical
Suitable for: Low-traffic areas such as family bedrooms and guest rooms, or spaces with limited ceiling height (such as older houses).
Advantages: Low price, visually indistinguishable from thicker flooring; adding padding can improve sound insulation and feel underfoot; normal lifespan 15+ years.
Note: 3mm requires padding; 4mm can be used in living rooms.
2. 5mm-6mm: Versatile Mid-Range
Suitable for: Medium-traffic areas such as family living rooms and kitchens, or light commercial spaces such as shopping malls and hotel lobbies.
Advantages: Balances durability and comfort, superior sound insulation compared to thinner models, lifespan approximately 20 years.
Note: For large commercial areas, it is recommended to use adhesive for localized fixation; the substrate must be leveled before installation to prevent deformation.
3. 7mm-8mm: Heavy-duty durable model
Suitable for: Offices, fast food restaurants, and other high-traffic commercial areas, or multi-story buildings (high sound insulation requirements).
Advantages: Outstanding damage resistance, sound insulation, and thermal insulation capabilities.
Avoidance: Caution advised for ordinary households (high cost, weight may damage the building structure); not recommended for thicknesses above 8mm (low cost-effectiveness).

Wear Layer: 10mil+ for homes (lifespan 15+ years); 4mil for rental properties (5+ years); 20mil+ for commercial use.
Width: For uneven substrates, choose the standard 10-15cm model; wide panels are only suitable for perfectly flat surfaces.
Low flow rate + low budget → 3-4mm; mainstream home use → 5-6mm; high flow rate commercial use → 7-8mm. Combining wear layer thickness, width, and brand will allow you to select the appropriate SPC flooring.
